UTZ Certification: A Step to a Sustainable & Ethical Coffee Industry

At Boarding Pass Coffee, we are proud to be UTZ certified. However, most people don't understand what it means to have this certification. As a company, we are committed to providing ethical and sustainable products to our customers on top of making great coffee. A UTZ certification is a step to foster a more sustainable and ethical future for coffee production.

What is UTZ?

UTZ or “UTZ kapeh” (pronounced ootz kahpāy), is born from the Guatemalan Mayan language of Quiché that means 'good coffee'. In 2020, UTZ joined forces with the Rainforest Alignment Certification to create a better future for people and the environment. The UTZ certification is globally recognized for promoting sustainable and ethical farming practices, social responsibility, and environmental protection in the agricultural industry. When customers see the UTZ label on our coffee, it indicates that our coffee beans are sourced from farms that commit to strict standards involving worker welfare, environmental conservation, and responsible farming practices.

Why is UTZ Important?

Due to the strict requirements, companies cannot obtain a UTZ certification easily. When a product proudly showcases the UTZ certification it showcases good agricultural practices and farm management. By choosing UTZ-certified coffee, you're supporting the health and well-being of farming communities and contributing to the preservation of ecosystems worldwide.
